See bill even your wife is smart and wants to buy a centerfire rifle. If I were her though the lever action is a very smooth operating gun. Due to me shooting from the left side a lever action is the way to go for me rather than special order a left had bolt. I wouldn't have it any other way. I've shot a .410, 17 HMR, .308, and own a .243 lever action. My personal opinion, depending on the hunt, the second shot is the deadly one. The smooth transition to the next shell is so unreal that i wish there were more options for lever action rifles.

P.S. I bought a Savage American Classic (wood stock, not synthetic), .270. You can read about how hard it knocked down my first deer by going here: http://norcalcazadora.blogspot.com/2009/10/great-shock-i-finally-got-my-first-deer.html

Good Wife: Go to the store alone and get the rifle yourself!

Nothing quite as satisfying as coming home and saying, "Honey, check out the gun I bought today!" (At least that's how I would've said it when I got my rifle last summer if I didn't live in California. For me it was more like, "Honey, in ten days, you'll get to see my new rifle!")

...to my hunting addicted husband, of course i get to be part of the decision cause this one's for me baby. and hmmm...just a thought, but a lever action just isn't my idea of a sexy rifle. i was thinkin something more streamline and a little more powerful. :) and while i'm putting in my two-cents worth, i would really like the stock to be dark wood. there's just something about a beautifully carved dark wood rifle! anyhoo, thanks for searching for me, may the best deal win.
